In The Beginning...

After a briefing I've begun to get excited about how to approach this...
The whole project is then brought together at the end through the idea of us exhibiting our work. Something which is important through out the brief is too constantly/consciously:

'consider and analyse how a collection is made, represented
and engaged with by audiences'.

The brief states, that I must produce a 'book(s)', moving image or multimedia outcome in the response to the idea of collecting, collectors and collections.
Secondly to produce a postcard and piece of work that can either be shown on a show reel, or that can be wall mounted.

I want to produce a 'BOOK(S)' over a moving image piece for the first assignment.

I've begun thinking about all the different ways I want to present my work through this idea of a 'book' - a book being literally anything?

BOOK:-
book |boŏk|
noun
a written or printed work consisting of pages glued or sewn together along one side and bound in covers.[with adj. bound set of blank sheets for writing or keeping records in an accounts book.
a set of tickets, stamps, matches, checks, samples of cloth, etc., bound together pattern book a book of matches.

But from looking the actual definition of the word 'book', (as you can see it's very lengthy), it became clear that there are so many different ways of applying the word book to a sentence, this transcribes to myself that this idea of producing a book can really be a lot of things - lots of different approaches?
Although they all seem to have a couple of things in common which include:

- Bound/put together, pages or paper, to make one object.
- With a cover.
- It also seems to explain the idea that the BOOK IS A COLLECTION IN ITSELF, what's inside the book is a collection.

ARTIST BOOK COLLECTION - VERNON STREET.
Today a group of us had a look through the 'Artist Books' collection in Vernon Street, some were elaborate and had lots going on which were also hard to understand at first, but it was also nice to see that some artists books were simple and little, detailed things had been thought about, such as... materials used to cover book, the way it's bound and the paper used within? They had been suited to the subject or 'way' of the book itself.
All the Artists books are kept in cupboards and some in cabinets, at the moment the main artist who's work is in the display cabinets is that of Richard Long. A catalogue of all the books within the artists book collection is available.
One memorable book was in fact a book all about tea. Within a card board sleeve, there were 2 books, one full of photos (grainy) - communicating the visual of tea and the other was just text all written about tea. I thought this was a good way of bringing together the information needed to inform the audience. Easily accessible.

A favourite artist book of mine that I have Is Sabrina Ward Harrison, It pulls all her work together as a collection and is bound to form one of a collection of editions, i think the size and dimensions of the book are nice and kind of unusual.
